Does your power attack only knockback/down when you upgrade your weapon from the starter? I wasn't getting either until I upgraded to the level 4 weapon. I don't know whether it was a bug/lag problem.

Every berserker's weapon used to knockback before recent patches. But then developers considered it as a big imbalance for low-level games to let berserkers knockback, and deleted it from the very basic weapon.
